The Bisley Australian Country Music
Busking Championships Proudly supported by The Northern Daily Leader
Busking can take on many forms - all entertaining!
One of the most famous features of the Festival are the buskers who line Peel Street, performing day and night. Busking on Peel St has been the springboard for many artists including Kasey Chambers and Keith Urban. You never know who you might see performing on the street. Keep your eyes and ears PEELED!
The Bisley Australian Country Music Busking Championships are designed to recognise the entertainment provided by the Peel Street Buskers and also to provide an opportunity for them to win some great cash prizes.
Judges cruise Peel Street throughout the Festival and up to 12 finalists are chosen to perform before a large crowd at the Best of the Buskers concert held in Bi-Cenntenial Park - on the last Saturday of the Festival - where the winners are selected.
The first step if you want to busk during the Festival is to secure a spot - talk to local business owners and ask their permission to busk outside their premises. You may have to share the spot with other buskers.
Next, when you arrive in Tamworth call into Festival HQ in the foyer of Tamworth Regional Council's offices at 437 Peel Street and complete the free entry form.
Registrations will open at Festival HQ from Friday, 11 January between 8:30am and 5pm. Your application will be processed on the spot and you will receive a busking number and poster. Busking is allowed in the CBD precinct from Friday 15th January.
It is a Tamworth Regional Council requirement that all Buskers be registered in the championships and the entry form records your full particulars and advises the conditions of entry. One of the most important rules closely monitored is amplification and the acoustic busking zone in Fitzroy Street. Should a busker exceed the noise restrictions Council Rangers who patrol the streets checking sound levels may shut you down. This is to ensure everyone gets a fair go.
If you need to move equipment in and out of any closed street by way of a vehicle you will need to have an official permit available from Council’s offices. Without this permit infringement notices will be issued.
